I just recently completed a presentation on the work @mire has done to backport DSpace Services to the 1.6.0 release that is planned for release sometime before the end of the year. As I haven't received any request for the slides, I've placed them on slide-share.
While one always cringes at viewing oneself in video, I'll post the video stream as well for those that are interested in working with the dspace services framework.
